Traffic regulations

There are limitations to vehicular traffic in Trento, which may affect people coming by car.

The above limitation does not apply to cars carrying three or more people, and to cars with foreign plates.

Registration

The registration desk will open on Wednesday, February 23, at 8.30 hrs and will remain open during program hours. Staff will be available throughout the workshop at the registration desk.

Facilities

Video equipment (beamer connected to PC, but not overhead projector) will be available for all speakers.
Authors are required to bring with them their presentation in electronic format on a USB memory stick (accepted formats are PowerPoint 2003, Acrobat Reader 6.0.x). Presentations will be uploaded, before the start of the corresponding session, on a laptop running Windows XP. The time allowed for a presentation is 25 minutes, plus 5 minutes for questions.

Climate and clothing

The weather in Trento in late February is usually rather cold but dry, with day high between +4°C and +8°C, and night lows that can go below 0°C. There is some chance of rain, or even snow. A warm, layered cloth with a waterproof jacket is advised, together with a pile or wool warm hat and gloves.

Currency

The official currency in Italy is the Euro.
One Euro is approximately equivalent to 1.30 US dollars (as of February 14, 2005), one USD corresponds to 0.77 Euro. For currency conversion, you can refer to the Universal Currency Converter.

Banks and Exchange

Banks are open Monday to Friday, indicatively from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm (opening times may slightly vary from bank to bank). There are several bank offices close to Centro Santa Chiara, the closest is in Via S. Croce, 45 (turn right when you get on via S. Croce from the main entrance of Centro Santa Chiara, and walk for 50 metres).

Electricity

The electricity supply is 220 volts, 50 Hz. Foreign appliances require adapter.

Health

Free first aid services are available to all EU citizens who have a special form (E111) issued by the health authority of their home country. Visitors from other countries are advised to take out special insurance for the duration of the trip, to avoid the cost of possible medical treatment. American visitors may find that reimbursement of medical expenses incurred abroad is covered by their private insurance.

Medicines can only be obtained at the pharmacy ("farmacia", marked by a green or red cross). Pharmacies are open from 8:00 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 19:00.

Telephone

Public phones are available at many street corners. Some accept coins but most only accept telephone cards or some new-type credit cards. Call charges depend on the time of day and provider. Usually, peak time is 9:00 to 18:00 working days.
The area code for Trento is 0461. The international code for Italy is 39. To make an international call from Italy start with 00 and add the complete international number.

Italian Time and Date

Trento is located in the Central European Time Zone (CET), GMT +1.
In Italy all dates are written: day, month, year (thus 23/2/05 means 23 February 2005).
